Concept development
We develop new solutions and concepts to meet the essential requirements of functionality and cost efficiency set by our clients. These demands particularly apply to offshore structures in hostile arctic environments that require extended functionality. Focus within offshore wind, aquaculture and transportation infrastructure demands innovative ways to utilize established technologies and develop new ideas. We are actively involved in all of this.
Offshore wind: Floating and fixed wind turbine foundations. Contributed to a patented floating concept.
Aquaculture: Open and closed floating concrete cages. Contributed to two patented solutions, ØyMerd and FjordMerd.
Transportation: GBS (Gravity Based Structure) foundation in concrete at a depth of 450m for suspension bridges. Sulafjord concept with two spans supported on a GBS in the middle.
Detail design
We hold key positions within Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects, and offer unique opportunities for development within diverse fields, such as design of concrete and steel structures, analysis of loads and responses, detailing of building processes, as well as project execution.
Project management
In all our projects, we are involved in project management and interdisciplinary interface processes. Applying effective planning and high standard quality control is important in all our projects, and by focusing on the professional and technical aspects of the work, our employees have the opportunity to develop their project management skills.
Construction follow-up
Close follow-up of the construction site is needed to ensure that the execution meets client's requirements and specifications. In addition, our presence is necessary to follow up any changes during the construction process in Detail design projects.
Our focus is therefore to ensure constructable solutions in close collaboration with the construction team. Concrete Structures AS employ several engineers with long experience to follow up at construction sites, both offshore and onshore.
Research and development
Development of methods and innovation are vital to enhance the efficiency of design solutions in increasingly demanding environmental conditions. Additionally, design methods are required to be constantly improved to meet the demands of functionality and streamlining.
Concrete Structures AS therefore participates in research and development projects in cooperation with our business partners and/or educational institutions.
Concrete Structures AS has been involved in several projects in Research and Development, including:
-
BIA project – DACS – Durable Advanced Concrete Solutions:
The DaCS project was started in order to develop knowledge, methods and tools that enable sustainable and competitive concrete structures that can withstand rigorous conditions in arctic marine environments. Concrete Structures AS are both sponsor and key technical contributor to the work that deals with calculating and finding the criteria for cracks in the design. Other topics that we cover in this project are frost-resistant concrete, abrasion due to ice, and ductility of lightweight concrete. The project is led by Aker Solutions and supported by the Norwegian Research Council.
-
LORCENIS (Long Lasting Reinforced Concrete for Energy Infrastructure under Severe Operating Conditions)
LORCENIS is an European research project whose main objective is to develop concrete materials for different types of infrastructure in the energy and transport sector. Our main focus is to improve durability, extend the lifespan and reduce maintenance costs. Concrete Structures AS provide technical assistance in collaboration with Aker Solutions. The project is coordinated by SINTEF.
